The end of last week saw the destruction of many a construction yard, tank and soldier. I've finally decided to complete Command & Conquer with both GDI and NOD. It's when you sit down and start playing this game that you realize Red Alert isn't really that great. Sure, it has the high-resolution graphics, a few more units and larger maps. But C&C makes up for it by being more innovative and much cooler.

How many songs from Red Alert can you remember half a year after playing the game? Thought so. And what about the mission structure, why is a specific mission in Red Alert always the same, apart from the map layout, when they vary in C&C, lower budget?
And the characters, what is a poor Einstein look-alike and a general with a cold against doctor Moebius and Kane?

As for the level of difficulty, I'm ready to give Red Alert another point, it never felt as impossible completing as C&C does in some moments. C&C demands you to do exactly the right thing at some points, whereas Red Alert gives a bit wider margins for your actions. But this also makes finishing a mission in C&C feel much more rewarding, it gives that feeling of having won against all odds.

And what does the ore of Red Alert have to put up against the Tiberium? Not even the spice of old Dune II was that cool ...

I could go on like this forever, but I think everyone gets the point ...

Listening to Suede's Coming up while writing this. Still a great record!
