Beastie Boys

Well, they're not allt that beastly any more, no-one will feel offended or anything like that by listening to Hello Nasty. It's just as likely to cause offense as a CD of Christmas carrols is. Which is just another good reason to listen to it, preferably with lots of extra bass. This is high-level earcandy. Best line on the record must be "Got an A from Moe Dee for sticking to themes" considering how much they actually stick to any kind of theme at all (that's part of the charm too) ... Other than that, all those wierd samples and sounds are almost worth the price on their own.

Things are different on Licensed to ill though, in all aspects, but it's still worth a good listening. Especially the lyrics of She's crafty ...

Paul's Boutique is somewhere inbetween in all aspects; the sampling mania has started but the rapping is more like Licensed to ill. Hello Nasty also sounds more hi-tech in some kind of way ... Looking at the picture in the middle of the lyrics, Paul probably sells some really psychedelic stuff somewhere behind all the clothes ...

All in all, volume is a very important factor when listening to the Beasties. Too low, and they completely lose their magic. Lots of bass is just a nice bonus, especially for tracks like Intergalactic.

Earcandy of the highest level and about the only kind of hip hop I get anything from listening to. Described as not having the slightest clue to what the hell they're doing, I wonder how much truth there is to that ... I'd think there is some, they do what they want and like, and they do it good. More people should ...
