Quake 2

Right ... Quake 2. Two weeks ago, I hadn't played this game for a seriously long time. When I first got it, I finished the single player game, and that was that. With no access to a network, multiplayer was impossible. The game was great however, and when I got a 3d card and played through it a second time, it looked even better. Even though levels really lacked a lot of graphical variation, they looked and felt very good. And those monsters, and the gameplay, were even better. Killing things just never felt better than in Quake 2. It simply was first person action, and it was the very best of its class.

In the autumn of 1999, I finally have access to a network and on that network, Quake 2 is the game. I'd had some multiplayer Quake experience as well as some botmatches in Unreal, but this was many times better. There is something special about playing against a human opponent or, in this case, up to eight. It doesn't really hurt to be relatively skilled in FPS games too, so that you can get some real frag counts too, of course ... Frag is a very nice word, that's for sure ... There is also a lot of satisfaction in heraing people say things like "you're the one who's so damn good?" and be able to answer yes without lying.

This wasn't a very inspiring text to write, there just isn't too much to say about running around blowing the heads off people as quick as possible. Deathmatch really is for playing, not writing about ...
