Dell, the company which built our latest computer, continues to improve its rank in my book. First they delivered a computer which worked out of the box with no problems, and complete with an extensive book on how to upgrade it yourself. Compared to our old computer, it's also wonderfully easy to open up and dig around inside. You need to unscrew a grand total of one screw to do so, and the inside of the computer doesn't look half as chaotic as the old one. That was the first part: ease of use, no problems and excellent information. Secondly, we today recieved a modem driver update from them without ever asking for it, fixing a problem we always thought to be with our ISP. That's good service I'd say!

Took advantage of the ease-of-upgrading this Monday, installing a second CD-ROM drive my brother bought the same day. He thought a different drive would solve some serious problems with Settles III. The annoying thing is that it seems to have worked, I just don't get how the CD drive could be the problem, especially when everything but the music for the game has been installed to the hard drive! I'd be really interested in an explanation if someone has got one ... Anyway, it has its points to have two drives. Some games, Total Annihilation for example, seem to be able to utilize both drives at the same time with no problems and, what I like best, we'll now be able to run any game and listen to some music from a different CD at the same time (even if the second drive has to use the "telephone" volume control, feels like a quite insignificant problem ...). Now, if we could just get our oldest CD drive to work again we could have to drives in the old computer too ...

Had one of those nice birthdays yesterday. Beacuse my father had to go to work they all got up around 7:30 to celebrate me before he had to go. Actually, it felt quite good to look at the watch around 12:00 and realize you've been awake for several hours. Good thing is we had very little cake yesterday, so now there's a lot of it left to eat whenever you feel like it. Expect a deeper analysis of Myth II someday in the future ...
