I'm a bad boy, and I know it. I said I'd cut down on games buying after (and before too for that matter) Mayday, and I really meant to. But I didn't, oh no. All good promises were broken as I walked into that store and found Unreal Tournament for SEK 214, about half the normal price. Damn me being so price conscious and prone on buying games! Got toget a job soon, having an income would at least somewhat justify spending money on games all the time. More UT ranting can be found on the UT page.
Downloading the Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack ... 13 megs on a 56 k modem, sigh ... Currently been online about 2:27, spending time by actually reading stuff while connected, quite a change :-) ... Only wish it'd be a little faster than 1,3 kb per second, all this waiting makes you nervous someone'll pick up a phone and disconnect me when downloading's just about finished ... And there it's done! Took about 3:08, but at least no-one interrupted ...
Ever heard of Battlecruiser 3000AD? After reading a few texts on the subject all I can say is: whew, talk about fighting against all odds! Can't really comment on the game since I've never played it, but you can't help being impressed by Derek Smart, keeping his dream and helping people with the mess Take 2 released. Can't that be called visionary, having a vision and sticking with it no matter what obstacles get in your way? Keep the spirit! Head over to Battlecruiser Online and follow the links there for further reading. I can recommend the Loonygames editorial for historical info.
I just don't understand ... I play UT botmatch with auto adjusted bot skill on, starting on average bot skill (second lowest). I may have played well in the first match, but I don't think so. Anyway, in the second match I really get kicked around, place low on the scoreboard, and get a little bit annoyed. Then, when the same trend continues on the next level too, I really start to doubt my own skills (whish I were a better loser, not getting all upset about losing to bots ... :-). On the fourth level, things start off in the same fashion, and I'm starting to think about giving up UT altogether. I mean, if you're beaten by average bots, then you must be doing something seriously wrong, right? However, in a stroke of genious, I take a look at the bot skill level and discover it has been switched up to inhuman (second highest)! Hey, I know I didn't play that well! Okay, maybe the game thought so I think and play on, encouraged by the fact that those bots beating me are at least a lot more skilled than I thought. The final blow of confusion comes after I finish a really good match against godlike bots, finishing second, only to get swithced down to adept in the next match ... Perhaps this is all fantastic A.I. at work, but I fail to grasp the logic. And anyway, it's time for bed long ago ...
