Oh, great! What am I supposed to write here then? What was I thinking? Hate when that happens ... Well, guess I have to make the best of the situation.
Posted my application for university programs today, well ahead of final application date (April 15th). Applied for system analysis (that's the translation the dictionary gives anyway, it's a straight word-by-word translation, don't know if it has the exact same meaning for english speakers) as first and computer engineer as second. Don't think there's any large risk I'll get anything but my first choice, almost wish it was. It was one of those decisions on which I swayed back and forth between alternatives you see. Think I'll find system analysis easier, but computer engineering somehow feels like a "purer" and more focused program ... Enough swaying, after all I have decided now so it would feel kind of stupid if I suddenly convince myself I should have prioritized them the other way round ...
Have to write something about Master C++ for Windows. While being a pretty good way to learn C++ in many ways, it also has its problems. Basically it's a computer-based course in C++ where you read lessons and answer questions along the way. Answers are written in most of the time, and varies between plain text and lines of code. Answer interpretation is both a strength and the major problem with the program. Often, the interpreter seems pretty smart, understanding answers quite a bit different from the "ideal" one. The problems come when someone has made some kind of mistake and the program suddenly requires an exact answer with no acceptance of variations at all. Even worse, sometimes it even requires the wrong answer, and on one occasion all answers were treated as incorrect! The program also has a function which often gives you a second chance with some additional clues when you give the wrong answer the first time. However, it doesn't always give the correct clues ... In all, the course is often pretty smart, the problems come when it suddenly fails to be so without warning. Common issue with computer based learning perhaps, but I still think there's been too little bug testing involved ...
Whe've got a gaming console in our home, oh dark day! My brother borrowed a SNES (what an abbrevation by the way!) from a friend during the weekend, and it seems Mario won't go away at least until the weekend ... Have managed to stay away from it so far, at least there's no-one around dumb enough to claim console dominance over computers, so I guess I can live with it for a while longer.
