21/7
Went looking for Starship Troopers at the library today, but it seems it won't be in until the middle of next month. Searching for books was done through a nice web-based interface, on a computer with one of those nifty flat screens. I could live with one of those, if only they weren't so cheap :-) ... So, I borrowed Nineteen Eighty-Four instead. Got home, sat down, finished it. Didn't mean to do it so fast, it just happened ... Realized how much the film Brazil (cool film by the way, take a look!) owes to this book, but I guess a lot of movies do and I can't say it disturbs me anyway. Sure not a future, even if it happens to be a past by now, I'd chose to live in if I had a choice ...
Not sure when I last read a book, was nice doing so again anyway. Devouring words and creating the images in your mind instead of just swallowing someone elses prefabricated images. Felt a bit odd to finish a book the same day I borrowed it though, feels like I should have got a few more while I was there. But then, this house isn't exactly devoid of books. Anyone (except maybe one person, you know who you are :-) ...) should be able to fill their book reading needs from its collection for quite some time, provided the person likes the selection of course.
In less than two months I may have moved away from this house. The fact fails to awake any special feelings, just like last year's student's day didn't. Things like that don't feel like those really big transitions some other people seem to take them as. Perhaps I don't worry enough ... Had some periods of worry about the immediate future last spring or something, but they went away as time went by rather than increasing. Don't see it as any of the top-ten great losses ... Don't have all that much reason to worry either. I've been admitted so I know what I'll be doing for the next few years. I've even got a job to bring in some money in any spare time I may have. And if I shouldn't get an apartment I can always stay here for a while longer. The only thing I find slightly annoying is that I'll probably start the activity of taking loans, and I don't see paying the stuff off for the rest of my life as a very cool pastime ... Better just get used to the idea I guess, paying is a pretty common activity ...
