Back from a week of intense cross-country skiing. For some reason I got some kind of impulse and skied a lot more than usual. Not counting the last day, on which we cleaned the cottage, went home and all that, my average per day was just above 20 kilometres. Not bad huh? Feels good to get exercise and build up an apetite sometimes. Must be a sign of maturing, when you start to relly enjoy being mean to your body ...

On the downside, I didn't get any C++ studying done and, even worse, got no postcards sent. My father accidentally used up all the cards that were left, so I guess I'll have to send some kind of apology to Martin for not even attempting to beat the record ...

One thing I did start to read while away was the Gormenghast trilogy. You may be forgiven for never having heard of the trilogy and the enormous castle of the same name, but perhaps it's a lot more well known outside Sweden. The text on the back of the first book compares it to Tolkien's trilogy in uniqueness, and I have to agree that it is a quite odd creation. Nowadays, it feels even more unique than Tolkien's books, as they are what all fantasy authors look up to and try to copy, but I don't know of anyone who has attempted to copy Gormenghast. I quite like the language in the books, even if the sentences do get confusing at times. The language is colourful, word rich, varied and humourous. Some passages feel a lot like things that may have inspired Terry Pratchett.

Travelling home by car at night was, as always, very nice. There was a lot of great looking fog around a lot of the time, giving lights this kind of coronas you otherwise only see in Unreal.
