BeOS Notes
23/12 2001This is one update that could have been made long ago. I've definitely got more BeOS hours and experience in now, but not as many as humanly possible and/or that the sheer niceness of the OS might make you guess. Lack of applications is of course the main problem, there are many things that available apps in Windows just make easier and more convenient to get done there. Especially the lack of up-to-date and stable web browsers in combination with some kind of odd habit to get me logged off and needing to restart networking to get back online. Plus the dreaded habit is pulling towards Windows all the time of course ... But still you can't deny the sheer and utter nicety of BeOS, the fact that it makes you happy just by starting it (which is a process of just a few seconds), the speed of everything and the thought that has gone into the OS showing through everywhere. Polish, speed, ease of use, command prompt, BeOS has it all! You just couldn't help liking it even if you tried not to. I guess it should be mentioned that Be and BeOS is now officially dead. Bought by Palm, which may be a really good thing for those sweet handhelds, running a derivate of BeOS really seems like a great thing for them to do. Don't let the fact scare you, this OS is still as cool as hell! | ||
