Flights and Stuff
Notes made while in transit to and from Hong Kong, directly from the Palm and in order of appearance ...
14/6 12:10
In position at Arlanda, just waiting to board at 12:40. Plenty of time ... Mom didn't come with me and grandpa (dad's side) though, she woke up this morning with a fever. Naturally made me feel lots of things that could be the start of a good cold :-) ... Luckily, I seem to have come up empty as far as substantial cold signs go. 25 minutes to boarding of flight KL1110 ... Maybe I should save some batteries for later, got plenty in store though. Potential Hong Kong inhabitants sitting right opposite to me right now by the way :-) ...
Might be time to replace this protective plastic by the way, having troubles with "o" and ")" when in the most used part of the writing area ...
I've spent my last night in Sweden, Europe even, for almost a month, damn ... The longest trip of my life, both in duration and distance. Feel a bit tense in the stomach region actually :-) ... Wonder if this little "warm-up"-flight before the big one is a good or bad thing? My vote's on good, if for nothing else then for the reason that I'll have the long one no matter how the short one goes :-) ...
Ten minutes to boarding ...
15:45, Amsterdam
Well, that was a piece of cake! The real one coming up in about 45 minutes. Only one thing I don't get here: why did boarding for this flight start five minutes after we'd got off the plane when take-off is still an hour away? By making it seem like a hurry they made me walk briskly through half the airport without stopping anywhere but this pretty unexciting waitingroom. Oh well, at least I did the scanning pass-through right at the first attempt this time :-) ...
Damn, these speakers demand a lot of attention all the time! Couldn't they just cut out the messages unrelated to this waitingroom? I don't see how someone could end up here by accident anyway ... Guess it's a good training at listening to foreign languages, but there still is no helping my Dutch :-) ...
16:46
I'm in a 747, pushing up above the clouds ... Kent please!
Well, TSOOL will do fine I guess ...
"Mixed Peanuts", could it sound more suspicious? Good peanuts anyway ...
Someone must have done research on the maximum safe amount of liquid to pour in a glass for a given amount of plane banking. Things like that don't usually occur to you :-) ...
From up here every place just looks like a less organized version of Holland ...
Oh, and one thing's for sure: it's not reassuring to see how your bags are being unloaded :-) ... Hope all the CD cases survive ...
4/710:55
Waiting to board the flight to Amsterdam ... Damn, these were short weeks. And damn again, I realized on the way to the bus that Akrylplysch was left behind on Bonnie's bed. I know she'll take good care of him, but I still feel slightly bad about it. What'll he think of me? Nothing good I suppose :-) ...
Boarding time!
Got a warm package labeled "Chix" on my food tray :-) ... Ah, seems what they really wanted to say was "slightly boring pieces of chicken with noodles and vegetables. Differences from the trip here: cheap chopsticks instead of knife, have to spread butter with the spoon ... Otherwise the sticks are a nice change from the knife. Not that they would have been on the flight here of course ... Why is the package of tableware (bestick) so cold by the way, they keep it in the fridge?
21:50 (still noting in HK time ...)
Leaving Estonia behind now, this flight truly has felt a great deal shorter than the trip in the other direction. I guess I should thank The Fifth Elephant for a good part of that, suddenly it's good that I didn't get around to reading it for so long. Timing in the start of a movie (Chocolat, pretty nice, nothing world-altering) helped pass more than two hours as well. Have actually slept a bit too, surprisingly. Would have imagined an all-daytime flight would mean less chance of sleep than a part-nighttime one. Guess travelling west helps, gives a much better day ...
02:20 (still using HK time :-)
Blah, this final flight got off to a slightly annoying start, more specifically a 35 minute delay and an aisle seat. So much more boring without a good view of the ground, and the people between me and the view aren't exactly using it either ... Oh well, it's just two hours anywy, and I suppose a total half hour of delays on about 26 hours of flights is pretty acceptable (plus thy've more than made up for a delay like this in early arrivals). Suppose the delay of arrival will be about 15 minutes. Hey, I'm hungry! When do we eat?
Okay, that was ... A bit too little, as usual. And I missed the chopsticks ... Hope there's some tea, and that it isn't volcano hot ... The air is too dry as well, much dryer than I remember any of the previous flights. Looks like we'll still arrive on time anyway, that's nice. Tea coming! Hmmm, not too exciting ... I've got better in my luggage :-) ...
