Getting Around ...

Traffic in Hong Kong differs a bit from home. There are relatively few private cars around (those that are around seem more expensive on average though, which makes sense too). Taxis and buses though, are everywhere, and I really mean it. Add to that 26 MTR (subway) trains per hour as well as trams and sky-high parking costs and you realize people don't have all that much need of a car anyway. I traveled in a private car once in three weeks (and only in one direction, we still took the bus home :-).

Buses were what we used most of the time to get around. Compared to around here, they seemed to leave just about all the time. Going somewhere never seemed to involve checking a timetable to see if there was an appropriate bus coming/leaving soon, there was always one (and sometimes three) anyway. The majority had two decks and airconditioning, so always seats and never sweaty. Where's the challenge in taking the bus then? This is so unfair ... Have to admit some of our more recent buses score pretty well in a comparison of looks at least.

The Mass Transit Railways were pretty nice to travel with too. Fast, very free of graffitti, garbage or any other spots, and with a female voice calling out stations and other info that would make any computer game or sci-fi movie computer proud :-) ...
