Manuals
"Read the instructions, even if you don't follow them."
I actually follow that advise, even to the letter at many times. I like reading manuals and rulebooks for some reason (have no idea why that isn't easily translated to schoolbooks, perhaps because of higher complexity?). I do think most manuals should be more extensive, there's always something I'd like to know excluded from all available material (including readmes and FAQs) ... Like how Tiberian Sun just mentions the Tacitus suddenly, and immediately thereafter everyone but you seem to know exactly what it's all about and why. But that's not the best example, it's not as manual-related as I wanted this text to be. A better one: all documentation for my new monitor says it will go to 1600*1200 resolution. Fine. So, what to do when it doesn't, even though you've got the driver from the included CD installed and your graphics card can go even higher if it feels like it? No, haven't checked for newer drivers or tested standard drivers yet, but I kind of feel the included ones at least ought to do the job ...
I'm all for manuals on disc in any format, so much more convenient than flipping through paper versions, as long as you're in front of the computer anyway ... Should save printing costs too, right? So, invest the saved money in putting even more information in the manuals! Illustrative screenshots in colour, more cool background information, anything! More information to the people!
