Chemical Brothers

Back in grade 11 or so, I heard Block Rockin' Beats for the first time. I liked it, listened to it quite a lot. I even almost bought Dig Your Own Hole for quite a number of times. Nowadays, it feels too uninteresting to pay full price for, but interesting enough to make me annoyed that I can't find it for a lower price.

Anyway, a month or two after surrender was released I bought it. Good thing I'd learnt from previous records not to expect too much similarities between a single and a full album, Hey Boy Hey Girl sounds very different from the rest of the songs. Nevertheless, the songs stick quickly, and they bring up some interesting associations. There are sounds in the beginning of Out of Control reminding me of SID-music (that's on the C-64). And parts of The Sunshine Underground awaken memories of the wonderful Little Big Adventure music. A lot of songs make me think of Cornershop, with asian-feeling sounds and rythms.

Now, if only I could find Dig Your Own Hole in some discount box again ...
