Drivers

I have a decisively schizofrenic relationship to drivers. On one hand, I'm can't stay away from something that might just make things work just a little bit better, even if I'll never notice it in any way (got the same problem with patches, maybe there's some kind of treatment for this?). On the other hand, I'm very aware of the risks of trying to fix things that already work and I keep nagging myself for doing so. Especially since this includes downloading pretty large files quite often, and that makes me feel a bit guilty ...

And I just hate the lack of information about the drivers at many places. What do you get to know before downloading? Possibly, you get a link to a readme file that is basically the same as for all the other drivers out there, containing those installation instructions you've read a thousand times before. Don't get me wrong, installation instructions are a good thing to have nearby, especially when messing with display drivers. It's just that I think detailed instructions on exactly how the new driver differs from the last one should be mandatory. In this aspect, most game companies are a lot better at informing. The Unreal Tournament pacth release notes, which you can naturally view before downloading, contains a long list of every little fix and change the file causes. That's the way to go, ATI and everyone else!
